Gordon Highlander Preservation Group

Welcome to the website for all of those interested in the future of Deltic D9016 (55016) "Gordon Highlander".

Introduction

This website and the associated appeal has come about as the future for 55016 was recently very uncertain and there seemed to be a real danger the locomotive would be dismantled for spare parts.

Once this possibility came into the public domain there were many people who felt strongly that the loco should have a viable future as a working engine in its own right and that 26 years after its original preservation it is not acceptable for a Deltic to be scrapped

The purpose of this website was to act as online home for the new preservation group, aiming to raise funds quickly through the purchase of shares to provide the necessary finance required against the possibility of the loco being made available for sale. The full opening statement made by Duncan Langtree, the founder of the GHPG, is here.

The loco was then made available for sale, so we made an appeal (see here) and managed to raise an astonishing sum in the very short timescale (less than a week) available. This in turn let us make a substantial offer for the loco.

We were not in fact successful in our bid, but the loco has been sold on for further use rather than be broken up - see latest news

This is a very positive develpoment, as there is a clear intention to restore the loco to mainline use.

However, having got a 'Deltic Oriented' community together in this way, it seems there are a number of ways in which we could potentially further the cause of Deltic preservation rather than just fade away. So please join the debate on our forum if you have any views on what we should do next (Polite views, that is!).
